There's already a working app I can try. Why does the project still need funding?
The Live Demo proves the experience works — the discovery logic, the structure, the player. But a demo and a reliable public platform are two different things. The current MVP runs on a small, hand-curated catalogue and isn’t built to serve thousands of people at once. Funding pays for the unglamorous part: stable infrastructure, secure user accounts and payment flows, an expanded structured catalogue, and the testing and monitoring a real launch needs. The idea is proven. What’s left is the scale-up.
What do I get for my contribution?
Your contribution mainly helps build the platform — but every tier comes with Premium access that activates at public launch:

- CHF 300+ — Founding Supporter: 5 years of Premium + permanent Founding Supporter status

Is this an investment? Do I get a share of the project?
No. A contribution is voluntary support for the next development phase. It doesn’t create equity, ownership, profit participation, or investor rights. Investment and partnership discussions are a separate track, handled through Investor Access. If you’re contributing here, you’re backing the work — not buying a stake.
What happens if the CHF 60,000 goal isn't reached?
This campaign is not all-or-nothing. Every contribution goes straight into the project, even if the full goal isn’t met. A smaller amount simply means a smaller or slower next phase — but the work continues either way. Nothing is held hostage to a target.
Can I get a refund?
No. Contributions are voluntary support, and every franc goes directly into building the platform as it comes in — it isn’t held in reserve. Because of that, contributions can’t be refunded. Please give only what you’re comfortable giving as support for the work, not as a purchase you expect back.
Will my Premium access still be valid if the platform grows or changes hands?
Yes. Any access and benefits promised to supporters are meant to carry over. Honouring early supporters is a condition the founder treats as non-negotiable — the people who backed the project first don’t get left behind as it grows.
When can I use the platform, and when does my Premium access start?
The Live Demo is available right now. The full public platform is planned for 2027, and any Premium access included with your contribution activates at launch.
How can I pay, and is it secure?
Payments are handled through PayPal — an established, secure provider. Your payment details are never stored by SalsaMusicPlaylist itself. For larger contributions, a direct transfer to our business account is also possible — just get in touch and we’ll share the details.
How is this different from Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube?
Those platforms point their AI at you — predicting what you’ll click next to keep you listening. SalsaMusicPlaylist points its AI at the music. Every track is analysed and tagged across the dimensions that matter in salsa — genre, era, region, rhythm and style — and fed into a dedicated salsa knowledge base built on decades of expertise. The result is a different kind of discovery: human-guided and editorial, helping you understand and explore the music, instead of an endless feed that just shows you more of the same.
Does SalsaMusicPlaylist host the music? Is this legal?
SalsaMusicPlaylist doesn’t store or sell any music — and yes, it’s fully legal. The tracks play through YouTube’s official embedded player, used exactly the way YouTube intends, right inside the platform. The music stays on its official source, just as if you played it on YouTube yourself. What SalsaMusicPlaylist adds is everything around the music: expert curation, structure, context, and the tagging that lets you actually find what you’re looking for. We’re the guide, not the jukebox.
You mention AI tagging. Isn't that just another algorithm?
It’s the opposite of a black-box recommendation feed. AI is used as a tool to organise and tag tens of thousands of tracks consistently — work no single person could do by hand at that scale. But the taxonomy, the judgement, and the curation are human and expert-led. The machine handles the volume; a person who knows salsa decides what matters and why.
What's the difference between a Playlist and a Songlist?
A Playlist is editorial — curated by SalsaMusicPlaylist itself, drawing on decades of expertise. It’s the guided, expert layer: collections built with intent and context. A Songlist is yours. Using the platform’s tools, you build your own structured collections from the catalogue — your taste, your logic, your knowledge. The Songlist is the core unit you create. And the best community Songlists can be elevated into official editorial Playlists.
How can I filter and find music? What makes it different?
This is where the platform really separates itself from streaming services. Instead of searching by popularity or a vague “mood”, you filter salsa by the dimensions that actually matter to the music: genre, dance style, energy, era, region, and theme. You can drill down to exactly the salsa you’re looking for — a specific era, a regional sound, a particular feel — in seconds. It’s the difference between scrolling an endless feed and using a precise instrument built by someone who knows the music.
Do active members get rewarded?
Yes. The platform is built around contribution, not just consumption. Members who build and publish strong Songlists, help with curation, and add to the community earn recognition through a tiered status system (Wood → Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum). The standout reward: your best Songlists can be promoted into official editorial Playlists — your curation, featured for everyone. A regular community award is also planned to recognise the most valuable contributors.
Who is behind the platform?
SalsaMusicPlaylist is built by one independent founder based in Zürich, with around 30 years immersed in salsa and deep roots in the Cali tradition and Salsa Dura. That isn’t a limitation — it’s the source of the depth. The platform reflects a real, lived knowledge of the music that an algorithm can’t reproduce.
Why only 25,000 tracks, when salsa has so much more?
25,000 is the first fully structured, browsable catalogue — the quality-controlled foundation, not the ceiling. Tagging tracks properly takes real work, and that work is part of what this campaign funds. The long-term target is around 250,000 tracks. We’d rather launch with a smaller catalogue that’s genuinely well organised than a huge one that’s noise.
